World Read Aloud Day Excitement!

Blog > Focus Area: Literacy, General News, Stories

With WRAD around the corner, a teachers’ workshop was held to prepare teachers. Thirty-one first grade teachers appreciated the benefits of a read aloud as a teaching strategy that builds the foundation for language, critical thinking, imagination and reading success. It’s was all smiles and laughter as teachers prepared for World Read Aloud Day which is happening next week! Reading aloud to children is crucial because it builds foundational literacy, boosts cognitive skills, fosters imagination, strengthens emotional bonds, and cultivates a lifelong love of reading. The teachers learnt and acquired read aloud strategies that they would be using in teaching. Reading crowns were created and the teachers enjoyed a read aloud and got a WRAD packet of supplies to help them celebrate the day in a colorful way at their schools.

Teacher Carol shared “First grade teachers who are forming the foundation of many learners feel empowered and supported by Kenya Connect. The workshop has helped us acquire a new teaching strategy while also supporting us emotionally.”
