Volunteer in Kenya
Kenya Connect welcomes volunteers that bring vitality to our programs. In a typical year, we offer three trips in February, June and October.
The main focus of our trips is for volunteers to work with teachers, students and parents to fulfill our mission and goals. Volunteers bring talents and ideas that help our staff implement programs, provide enriching experiences for our students and connect with our community through cross cultural sharing. Volunteers also learn about life in a rural Kenyan village and the challenges and struggles that parents face. They visit the Wamunyu Woodcarvers and a homestead to learn about traditional dance and basket weaving while having the unique opportunity to interact with community members.

Being embedded in the community gives you a unique opportunity to learn about life in rural Kenya in an authentic way. You will not only share your talents with Kenya Connect, but you’ll have an opportunity to learn traditional dance and engage with basket weavers and woodcarvers.
Making a Difference
Volunteers bring new ideas to our community and assist our staff in delivering programs. Your presence gives children hope and piques their curiosity about life outside of Kenya. Volunteers also bring valuable information that helps our staff refine programs. And many volunteers become donors which fuels our work.
Becoming a World Citizen
Seeing another slice of the world opens volunteers’ eyes to how people live, work and play. You will see challenges like the lack of clean water and infrastructure. You will also see resilience and you’ll hear plenty of laughter. Most volunteers leave feeling changed and connected to the people of Kenya.

The staff at Kenya Connect are passionate and dedicated in fulfilling the mission of Kenya Connect and the most welcoming people you will meet. This is true of our partner teachers and parents. And the learners, they delight in meeting volunteers from abroad and they will leave you feeling grateful that you met them.
Accommodation
While in Wamunyu, volunteers stay at Muthoki Country Lodge located 10 minutes from the Kenya Connect campus. Muthoki has cottages and glamping tents and is surrounded by 40 acres of trees. The food is excellent and the lush and beautiful setting is a wonderful place for volunteers to relax, play games and talk after a full day.

Teach lessons in our partner schools
Assist with school library days
Conduct professional development workshops for teachers
Lead a Saturday Storytime Activity
Teach health and hygiene lessons for parents
Assist with technology classes and robotics
Guide secondary students on career exploration and public speaking
Offer a team building activity for staff and students

Kenya Connect 5K
Volunteers are needed to support the KC5K held in Maryland in March. Being a course marshal or assisting with race registration is a wonderful way to support our work and have fun!
Creating a Fundraiser
Bringing people together is at the heart of Kenya Connect. You can support our work through hosting a dinner to introduce people who may be interested in supporting our work or you could run a half or full marathon and garner pledges to support education in Kenya. We have plenty of ideas on how you can help!
