‘Mutanu’ is the Kikamba name given to Sharon on her first trip to Wamunyu. It means “one who is always happy.” She began serving as Executive Director in July 2014. A long-time Kenya Connect volunteer and donor, Sharon has traveled to Wamunyu fifteen times, 13 of those with teams of volunteers. With a doctorate and experience in higher education as well as a strong background in development, she is sharing her talents to expand the impact of Kenya Connect to strengthen education and to open new doors to the students in Wamunyu. An avid reader, Sharon is delighted that the LRC houses a library and striving to be #TheVillageThatReads. Sharon, her husband Mike and their university aged children Emma and Roan enjoy hiking and traveling. Sharon serves on the Board of St. John’s Parish Day School, the Episcopal Service Corp, Maryland, and is a member of the Catonsville Women’s Giving Circle. In 2018 she was honored with the TIAA Difference Maker Award and in 2019 she was featured for her work with Kenya Connect in HerMind magazine. She is an ADK 46er and completed the Heb5 Half Marathon series in the Outer Hebrides. She continues to be in awe of the Kenya Connect Wamunyu staff and the work they have done to improve the entire community. Go Back
