Running through the hills of Wamunyu, the Kenya Connect Running to Read is a celebration of literacy and our shared commitment to building a culture of reading as we continue becoming “The Village that Reads!”

The 2026 Running to Read will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. in Wamunyu. Participants can choose from 5K, 10K and 21K race categories. Registration is KES 2,000 and includes a commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal.

Participants will enjoy post-race festivities featuring race awards, speeches and the crowning of the King and Queen Readers from our annual Reading Challenge. One hundred percent of race proceeds support Kenya Connect’s literacy programs.

Six-person teams from 31 Kenya Connect partner schools will compete for the Running to Read Trophy by achieving the fastest collective time. We are also inviting recreational runners from across Kenya to participate alongside our students, staff, volunteers, partners and community members in celebrating literacy through sport.

The event concludes with a joyful celebration of running, reading and community as we recognize outstanding student readers and celebrate the impact of literacy across Wamunyu.
