PayPal Gives provided a $6,000 grant for our new Empowered School Program being launched in January!

The grant was recommended by PayPal’s employee-volunteer led Timonium GIVE Team, and it will be used for the Empowered School Project. This project is a pilot which provides additional teaching resources including math manipulatives, educational posters, books and art supplies along with teacher professional development workshops for all teachers at the Empowered School. Our first Empowered School, Sofia Primary School, is very excited to be the inaugural school in this program with the teachers, parents and management committee unanimously supportive of this special program.

“The Empowered School Program will provide desperately needed educational resources to Sofia Primary School while providing essential 21st century teaching tools and training. We are deeply grateful to PayPal Gives for providing us this grant to launch the program.”James Musyoka, Executive Director, Kenya.

The Empowered School Project was made possible through PayPal’s GIVE Team program, which empowers employees globally to support the communities in which they live and work through volunteerism and employee-sponsored grants. With 35 GIVE Teams worldwide, employees recommend over $1,000,000 in grants each year, which are then distributed to benefitting organizations through PayPal Gives. Kenya Connect previously had been awarded a grant from PayPal Gives for Solar Panels for our LRC and was also awarded a 2018 Tech for Good award to provide equipment and training to promote digital literacy in our secondary schools. Kenya Connect welcomed a team from PayPal to volunteer in Wamunyu and Board Member, Chris Cochran also volunteered in Wamunyu and works in Strategic Partnerships at PayPal.
