145 students from Junior Secondary and Secondary School joined us for our inaugural career fair at the Library Learning Center. We are grateful to the 10 Professionals who shared insights with the students about their work and the pathway to their profession. The presenters were from the High Court of Kenya, Media and Communications, STEM and Chemical Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Public Health, Study Abroad, Education and Vocational Tech including Plumbing.
The students heard brief presentations and then met with the professionals in small groups. This program is part of our work to expand students horizons and help pave new pathways for the future! Cynthia shared, “Today I have learned to be determined about the career I want to pursue despite my background. I am grateful for the opportunity to ask the professionals a lot of questions at the different career stations.”
Peter from Mwala Technical and Vocational College shared, ” It was an amazing day today to interact one-on-one with a professional from vocational training. I have all been learning about theory, but today I had the opportunity to learn a practical way of technical drawings, fitting of different sizes of plumbing pipes, and direct video clips of installations of flush toilets and showers. It has been very difficult for me to understand in the classroom, but through the career fair, I understand it’s easy. Thanks to KC for that opportunity.”
Our next Career Fair will be in November with another set of professionals. We are excited to be paving new pathways for our students’ futures. We are grateful to the Gupta Family Foundation for supporting this program.
