Fast forward, Kenya Connect is now working to provide rural children with options through six focus areas at 90 partner primary, junior and secondary schools in Machakos and Kitui counties. Our campus includes the solar powered Learning Resource Center (LRC) built by local craftsmen in 2012. The LRC hosts a computer lab and EdTech Hub. The LRC has allowed us to bridge the digital divide through the provision of technology programs for student and teacher learning. In 2022, during our 20th anniversary, we opened the Library Learning Center (LLC) which is also solar-powered and hosts the first community library for the region, a Maker Space, recording studio, staff offices and rooftop meeting space. The LLC is a hive of activity with students, teachers and parents engaged in playful learning and engaging workshops. With partner schools 10-30 kilometers away, our Magic School Bus and Reading Rover trucks bring programs to the schools on a daily basis. A staff of one has grown to a team of 25 with 6 of the staff being beneficiaries of our programs when they were in primary school.
