A Foundational Literacy Training for Pre-primary through Grade 3 teachers was held in early May reaching 80 teachers. The focus was training on strengthening teachers’ skills in phonetics and equipping them with practical strategies to help learners build strong foundational literacy. We engaged teachers in intensive, hands-on learning experiences throughout the sessions.
Teachers were introduced to the TIPs Programme. They were guided through a model lesson, supported in developing their own lesson plans and facilitated peer teaching activities. These approaches allowed teachers to actively practice and refine their instructional techniques. Teachers were encouraged to embrace their roles as leaders and changemakers by creating positive learning environments and laying strong foundations for learner success.
Teachers shared positive feedback about the training. Brenda from Mang’olota Primary School said “This training has been like a refresher course. Initially, I have been struggling to teach Grade 1 learners sounds. Now, after this training, I am more confident and have gained strategies that I can use to teach my learners.”
The training strengthened teachers’ confidence, improved their instructional skills, and reinforced their commitment to improving literacy outcomes in their schools.
