Ford Motor Company Gratitude Grant!

Blog > Focus Area: Literacy, Focus Area: Technology, General News

We are thrilled to share that the Ford Motor Company has awarded Kenya Connect a grant to expand our literacy and technology program! The $5,000 grant will be used to enroll two more schools in our library program, purchase 500 Kenyan authored and published books and acquire additional tablets/chromebooks to use at partner schools for learning.
This is the third grant that we have received from the Ford MotorCompany. “We are deeply honored to receive this Gratitude Grant from Ford. Head Teachers at our partner schools continue to tell us that they are seeing increased student engagement and achievement thanks to our initiatives.” James Musyoka, Executive Director
Students participating in our LitClubs are especially thriving. Last week, at Sofia School’s end of term assembly, LitClub students performed a read aloud, poems and songs for the entire school. LitClub mentor Cyrus commented, “everyone was impressed including me!”
Before we began the LitWorld Litclub program with these grade 5 students, we learned that they struggled with test performance and had the weakest scores in the school. This academic year, grade 5 was the best performing class and the best grade 5 class in the entire Wamunyu Zone (18 schools). Reading, engaged activities and dedicated mentors are making a difference. We are grateful to Ford for helping us extend our reach!
