About this program

How best to empower teachers? In 2018, Kenya Connect began a Professional Learning Community program (PLC). Teachers in the PLC program meet on a regular basis with PLC Coordinator to develop strategies to best implement the Kenyan curriculum. Using movement, art, storytelling and manipulatives, the teachers shared ideas on how to best encourage 21st century learning in the classroom. The program also utilizes the Commonwealth Education Trust’s Teach 2030 online program that provides content on creating student-centered learning and classroom management. Through a WhatsApp group, they also share ideas, pictures and videos with one another on what they have tried implementing in their classrooms and how the students responded.

“Since learning to become a digital learner using a smartphone, practical active learning, and planning lessons to reach all learners, I have applied different techniques and methods in class. Quick searches for words in both English and Kiswahili languages have enabled efficiency in learning. Practical active learning methods like no hands up, stretch it, do it now, and thumbs up and down have made learning fun, exciting, and real.”
