In celebration of International Women’s Day, I am excited to highlight the incredible journey of mothers in rural Kenya as they explore art through our Maker Space. On 28th February, a group of mums gathered to learn the basics of watercolor painting, a skill that I wanted them to learn and share with their children at home so they could connect with them as this was a challenge.
This session was more than just about learning how to use watercolors, it was about fostering creativity, confidence, and parent-child connection. Many of these women had never held a paintbrush before, yet by the end of the session, they were blending colors, experimenting with paintbrushes, and creating beautiful pieces art pieces..
Through this initiative, we aim to bridge the gap between parents and children in creative learning. By equipping mothers with hands-on skills, they can actively engage with their children in art, making learning more interactive and enjoyable at home. Theresia shared that the first time she used a watercolor set, she found it quite challenging, and she struggled to show her son how to paint. After today’s session, she is now glad that she can confidently use watercolors and teach her son how to paint as well.
This is just the beginning. We look forward to hosting more sessions that uplift and empower women through art and innovation. Here’s to women supporting women.
