Career Fairs Open New Pathways

Blog > Focus Area: Pathways, General News, Stories

As the saying by Nelson Mandela goes, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We believe that helping students discover their career paths from an early stage is crucial in assisting them to understand various careers, so they leave school with clearly defined pathways.

The November Career Fair series theme was “Connecting Dreams to Careers.” With the generous support from the Ford Motor Company, we were able to bring on board 81 students from 5 partner secondary schools and 10 professionals from fields in medicine, languages and literature, law, automotive industries, software engineering, technical courses, agronomy, education, and study abroad opportunities, which opened students’ eyes to new possibilities, opportunities, and futures they had never imagined.

As students rotated through stations, they had the opportunity to interact one-on-one and learn from different professionals in various fields who shared their stories, experiences, challenges they face, and their day-to-day life in their careers. They reported feeling inspired, motivated, and encouraged.

Redempta, a form 3 student who is interested in pursuing medicine shared, “I learned the importance of talking to patients respectfully and that I have to excel in STEM subjects at school.”

Grace, a form 3 student in ABC Mitamboni Secondary School, learned that the importance of being confident, believing in yourself, discipline, and good performance is essential when pursuing careers.

The students welcomed the opportunity to connect with professionals across diverse career paths, inspiring them to start setting their goals early. Through this program, learners gained a clear understanding of the types of jobs available,  skills required, and the different pathways they can pursue to reach those careers.
