Angel’s Learnings

Blog > Focus Area: Empowerment, General News, Stories

Angel is a member of the Girl/Boy Empowerment Program. She recently shared with Mentor Jackie how she has grown through the program.

  1. Since I began learning with Kenya Connect, I am able to stand before people and express myself in different ways. I am able to discuss challenges and improvements with different people without being afraid. I no longer have to talk like I am afraid. I can now use a loud voice so people can hear me.
  2. I can control myself. Nobody is allowed to interfere with my body or abuse me sexually. I learned that I have a right to say “NO.” I learned about body boundaries and nobody should touch my body without permission.
  3. I have learned to say no to teen pregnancy. Since I have to the right to say no, nobody is able to convince me to make a decision that is not good for me.
  4. I also learned that I can report anything to people who I trust such as my parents or teachers.

“Kenya Connect has enabled me to grow and change in new ways. I can now stand against gender-based violence by reporting what I see. In school I am now a leader and I can talk to other students with confidence. I am deeply grateful.”
