Running through the hills of Wamunyu, the Kenya Connect Running to Read is a celebration of literacy and our work to build a culture of reading as we become “The Village that Reads!”
Six-person teams from 30 of our partner schools compete to win the Running to Read trophy by finishing with the fastest collective time. In addition, community members and visitors also compete in the race. The race concludes with a joyful celebration of running and reading with speeches, awards and the crowning of the King and Queen Reader of the Reading Challenge.
The 2022 race began with the Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi, the Women’s Rep for Machakos County flagging the runners. The students were joined by runners/walkers from Team4Tech and Kenya Connect in the U.S. and local community members. Kenyan Athletes Caleb Ndiku, Josphat Muema and James Mutua assisted in the award ceremony and in cutting the race cake provided by Wandy’s Bakers.
Join us in October 2023 for the Race. The exact race date will be announced in March 2023.
