Kenya Connect is partnering with LitWorld to offer LitClubs to students at two of our partner schools. We’ll be sharing stories of what the LitClub program means to these students.
Meet Ruth
My name is Ruth and I’m in grade 5 and a member of the Lioness LitClub. My favorite subject at school is Maths. My family consists of three people; my mum, my younger sister and I. At home, I do some chores to help my mum like sweeping the compound, washing utensils and clothes and cleaning the house. I act as a role model to my younger sister and I want her to be hardworking even at school. What I like about LitClub is we are taught how to believe in ourselves and be kind to others. Celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child is one of my LitClub memories. I always feel wanted and loved by other members. I like the read aloud activity which happens every weekly meeting. My favorite read aloud was the book titled “Sulwe.” My favorite book is “Marafiki Wapela.” The closure of schools has been one of the hardest thing during the pandemic. I really miss being in class and my teachers.
Meet Derrick
My name is Daring Derrick. I am in grade 5 at Sofia Primary School and a member of the Simba LitClub. At home I live with my father, mother and brother. I like to fetch water using a donkey and a wheelbarrow. In LitClub our mentor helped me to come up with a character adjective for my name. I love doing the brain breaks, the assignments and also our mentor who is friendly and caring. My favorite book is “The Tortoise Gift” The hardest about the pandemic is using facemasks and hearing of people dying of the pandemic daily. My favorite subject is Kiswahili.
